Government Transformed podcast: the story and legacy of the UK Digital Academy

This episode of the Government Transformed podcast was recorded in Leeds to coincide with a reunion of one of the UK government’s most innovative digital projects – the Digital Academy, which I had been closely involved with from the start.

Initially set up in the Department for Work and Pensions, the academy transferred to the Government Digital Service. Its aim was to give civil servants the skills to build public services that would close the gap between government bureaucracies and the kinds of services citizens had grown accustomed to in an online world.

The Digital Academy officially closed in 2022.

Listen on Acast or find it in your podcast app.

The summary article by Global Government Forum highlights the academy as an example of the difference small groups of dynamic individuals can make to government services, given enough time and freedom to solve core problems.
