7 Lenses of Transformation published

The 7 Lenses of Transformation was created as a practical guide to understanding complex transformations, providing a consistent framework and a common language for designing and evaluating large government transformation projects.

I led the creation of 7 Lenses with Tom Le Quesne of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority as part of my work at the Cabinet Office. We developed the work through extensive collaboration with government colleagues experienced in leading large-scale transformations, and supported by external experts. The published guide consolidates their expertise into a straightforward tool to assist an organisation’s transformation journey.

The launch was marked with a session at the Digital Leaders National Digital Conference on 21 June 2018.

Alison Pritchard of Government Digital Service, and Martin John of Infrastructure and Projects Authority, were interviewed by Professor Mark Thompson about 7 Lenses.

Colleagues developed the work further, including the 7 Lenses maturity matrix tool, which was published in September 2018. The work was refreshed by the Government Project Delivery Profession in 2025.
